Webinar Description: Individuals with knee osteoarthritis (OA) experience cartilage degeneration between their upper and lower leg bones, which can cause debilitating pain and disability. Although current treatments such as medication, physical therapy, or injection may alleviate pain and improve function, they are not customized for the specific patient. Currently, individuals with knee OA are treated by a ‘one-size fits all’ approach. Further, clinicians cannot tell which patients will benefit most from which treatment. An exciting, novel approach to treating OA is connecting information about a person’s biologic makeup to their clinical symptoms. This webinar will provide clinically relevant research updates that identify four categories of immune-phenotypes that were associated with clinical outcomes and the future of predicting a patient’s response to a certain treatment that could be possible using this type of work as a basis.
Learner Outcomes: Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify the biological changes that occur in knee osteoarthritis.
- Describe the use of biomarkers in the diagnosis and future management of the disease.
Successful Completion: Participants will be present during the live webinar in its entirety and complete an attendance verification and assessment in the Academy Learning Portal within one month of the live air date.
