Tendinopathy Rehabilitation: If One Size Fits All is Out, Then What?
Description: Tendinopathy presents an enormous clinical challenge due to high prevalence and chronic nature of the pathology. Exercise rehabilitation is considered to have the highest evidence for effectiveness as treatment, yet many patients struggle with pain and symptoms for a long time. During rehabilitation, questions arise in prescribing exercise (dosing and type of exercises) and in individualizing treatment plans. Response to treatment also varies between patients. This webinar aims to give an overview on how injury and exercise affects tendons, discuss the presence of subgroups of patients and how to individualize the treatments from initial injury to return to sport. The focus will be on lower extremity tendinopathies in general and Achilles tendinopathy specifically.
Learner Outcomes: Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Recognize the evidence for various types of exercise treatments for patients
with tendinopathy - Identify the influence of activity level, age, metabolic and psychosocial factors on injury risk, treatment and recovery
- Apply the evidence from research on the topic of examination, and intervention to the individual patient with tendinopathy
- Discuss how multiple factors can contribute to tendon pain and function within a biopsychosocial model
- Develop an individualized rehabilitative plan of care for return to sport in patients with tendinopathy
