The Adaptive Cycling Program is offered year-round—outdoors on Chicago's Lakefront Path in the summer and fall, and indoors on Wahoo trainers at the Adaptive Sports & Fitness Center in the winter and spring.
The program is offered twice weekly, providing a consistent opportunity for those looking to engage in a cardiovascular and strength training workout. This program is open to both recreational and competitive riders of all ability levels.
This program is offered free of charge to all registered Sports and Fitness program participants with a current medical form on file.
Indoor Cycling

Outdoor Cycling

- Dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays
- Times: 10:30 am-2 pm
- Location: Lincoln Park Wilson Lot (Wilson Avenue and Lake Shore Drive)
Practice location:
The practice sessions are held at the Lincoln Park Wilson Lot, located at the intersection of Wilson Avenue and Lake Shore Drive. Participants stage in the southeast corner of the lot.
For GPS navigation, we suggest using one of the following addresses:
- 4600 US-41 N, Chicago, IL 60613
- Wilson Skate Park, 700 W Wilson Ave, Chicago, IL 60640
Please note that while these addresses may work with some GPS apps, they may not be recognized by all mapping and navigation software.
Alternatively, Weiss Hospital, located at 4646 N Marine Dr, Chicago, IL 60640, is also in close proximity to the practice location and may be a suitable drop-off point if you are having difficulty reaching the primary staging area.

What is provided?
- Cycles; handcycles, leg-powered trikes, upright bikes
- Helmets
- Transfer assistance
- Volunteers to supervise and accompany individuals out on the Lakefront Path
- Various adaptive equipment including: abdominal binders, straps/pads, active hands, quad grips and an array of pedals
- All bike components and tools
- Education on minor maintenance/repairs
- Staff to assist in bike fitting and adjustments and skill development
Beginners:
- New riders start in the Wilson parking lot for an orientation before advancing to the Lakefront Path.
- New participants are required to complete a brief skills assessment which includes a shifting and brake test.
Etiquette:
- Ride on the right side of the path at all times.
- Helmets are mandatory.
- Flags are required so that our individuals are visible to all pedestrians and oncoming traffic.
- Notify other cyclists when passing on left.
- Pull off trail or path to stop so not to impede on traffic.
Weather updates: In the event of inclement weather, we will notify all participants via email by 9 am on the day of the scheduled practice session if the practice has been canceled for the day.
