Assessment of a Microprocessor Ankle for Low Mobility Individuals with Amputation: Phase I

The goal of this project is to conduct a preliminary investigation into the potential mobility, stability, and safety benefits of a microprocessor-controlled (MPC) device called the Damping, Stiffness, and Repositioning (DSR) prosthetic ankle-foot for persons with amputation at a K2-level.  Participants will visit the Shirley Ryan 嫩B研究院 10-16 times over 9 weeks, each visit lasting approximately 3 hours, to perform a series of walking and mobility tests with both their own prosthetic ankle and the DSR ankle.

Subject Population

Body

Participants must:

  • Be 18-89 years old
  • Have unilateral transtibial limb loss
  • Be a K2 level ambulator (typically walk mostly around the home)
  • Currently use a passive, non-microprocessor controlled prosthesis
  • Be able to stand for 15 seconds without the use of an assistive device such as a walker, cane, or crutches

Participants will be compensated.
