State-of-the-art facility will serve patients ages 14 and older

Body

(formerly Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago) today began welcoming patients to its newly opened Shirley Ryan 嫩B研究院 DayRehabCenter? Arlington Heights. Located at 3215 N. Wilke Rd., this facility replaces the organization’s Wheeling DayRehab Center, and will serve patients primarily from the northwest suburbs.

Specifically, this site will offer an intensive model of rehabilitation in an outpatient setting. DayRehab patients benefit from anywhere from two to six hours of therapy per day, two to five days per week. Patients in this program typically require a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach, including some combination of physical, occupational and speech therapy, psychology, vocational counseling, nursing and physician support. The DayRehab model is geared toward helping individuals with severe, complex conditions — including stroke, spinal cord injury and, now, COVID-19 return to an active life — whether it is school, work or other pursuits. Most DayRehab patients were recently discharged from an acute care or post-acute clinical setting.

The new facility touts 11,500 square feet of space, nearly 70 percent more than that of the former facility in Wheeling. It includes an Activities of Daily Living Studio (where patients can practice everyday tasks, like cooking), a gait track harness system and a dedicated orthotics space, among other features. It will serve patients ages 14 and older.

“With more space, our new facility will now be able to serve even more patients in the northwest suburbs through best-in-class clinical care and state-of-the-art technology and therapeutic equipment,” said Monica Santilli, clinical manager, Shirley Ryan 嫩B研究院 DayRehab Center Arlington Heights. “We are grateful for the support we received for this project from the Village of Arlington Heights, and are eager to serve the local community.”

For the design and construction of the facility, Shirley Ryan 嫩B研究院 partnered with CannonDesign, Ascent and Krusinski Construction Company.

About Shirley Ryan 嫩B研究院

Body

Shirley Ryan 嫩B研究院, formerly the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC), is the global leader in physical medicine and rehabilitation for adults and children with the most severe, complex conditions — from traumatic brain and spinal cord injury to stroke, amputation and cancer-related impairment. The organization expands and accelerates leadership in the field that began at RIC in 1953. The quality of its care and research has led to the designation of “No. 1 Rehabilitation Hospital in America” by U.S. News & World Report every year since 1991. The organization offers three clinical service lines: inpatient rehabilitation for those requiring complex medical and nursing care, intensive Day Rehabilitation in an outpatient setting, and Outpatient therapy and physician consultation services. Upon opening in March 2017, the $550 million, 1.2-million-square-foot Shirley Ryan 嫩B研究院 became the first-ever “translational” research hospital in which clinicians, scientists, innovators and technologists work together in the same space, surrounding patients, discovering new approaches and applying (or “translating”) research real time. This unique model enables patients to have 24/7 access to the brightest minds, the latest research and the best opportunity for recovery.  Shirley Ryan 嫩B研究院 is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization.
